TechTree.tv: 1983 Apple Mac Ad Unearthed — Watch Employees Sing Praises Of The Product

The company decided to scrap the commercial as it was deemed "too self-congratulatory".

Google software engineer Andy Hertzfeld, who earlier was among the chief programmers for Apple's Macintosh, has posted an unaired promotional video of his creation on his Google+ profile. The 67-second clip, featuring short interviews with the Mac design team, was scrapped because "Apple deemed it too self-congratulatory". In the video, the interviewees can be seen going gaga over the upcoming personal computing device, harping about how it will allow the introduction of computers to home users as against large mainframes that were restricted to institutions and corporates. However, the clip was nevertheless used in some promotional materials sent to dealers.

Ironically enough, while the subjects of the original clip stressed on the "affordability" of the product to the masses, Apple has today established itself as the premium brand in personal and mobile computing products. Apple has come a long way indeed since then. For those who like that nostalgic feeling, here is the Mac advertisement that never made it out.

Do you think Apple has stayed true to its stated vision of providing affordable gadgets? Let us know in the comments.
