Music App For Windows Phone 8.1 Gets A Much-Needed Update

The fourth update for the Windows Phone 8.1 version of the Music app brings a smoother UI and transparent tile support.

The Windows Phone users faced a few hurdles when they upgraded to 8.1, especially in the Music App and the Microsoft is ironing out a few flaws in the last update. The new update for the Music App, which bumps the version number up to 2.5.3965.0, brings faster and smoother scrolling. Also if you notice closely, there is a new transition that gives the app a pretty slick and polished look.

You can now add more than a 100 songs to your playback queue and hitting shuffle will definitely get you more variety. Until the last update, the Windows Phone users loved the good old Music app that had been through many changes over the years. The new update brings a couple of much-needed changes to the UI which began to lag a bit since the last update.

More importantly, the live tile now gets some transparency and will support backgrounds and theme colours. Sadly though, the live tile is not dynamic, showing only the music icon for now. Artist backgrounds are supposed to load more smoothly, but currently the feature is not supported in the Indian region.

The blog post did mention a couple of upcoming features that the Windows Phone team is currently working on. One of them includes live tile support which should hopefully display the artist name and details if not the album art. Microsoft is also planning to bring Kid’s corner support to the app along with some general UX improvement all of which should be available soon in the next update.

Nokia’s Mix Radio is clearly the next best option for Nokia owners and offers better support in terms of purchases in the Indian subcontinent. The app was update recently, but still takes a few seconds to start up which is where the Xbox Music app is a quicker option.
